Tooth Extraction in Laveen: What to Expect

Nobody plans on losing a tooth, but sometimes removing it is the best way to stop pain and protect the rest of your smile. At Laveen Smiles, Dr. Evans performs gentle extractions right here in our office, including wisdom teeth.

Why a tooth may need to come out

  • Decay or a crack that's too large to repair with a filling or crown
  • An infection that can't be treated any other way
  • Wisdom teeth that are stuck, crowded, or causing pain
  • Advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth

If there's a way to save the tooth, we'll talk through it with you first.

What happens during your visit

  1. Exam and X-rays so we can see the tooth and its roots.
  2. Numbing so you feel pressure but not pain. Laughing gas is available if you're nervous.
  3. Removal using gentle, steady pressure to loosen the tooth.
  4. Aftercare instructions so you know exactly how to take care of the area at home.

Healing at home

  • Bite on gauze to help a blood clot form
  • Stick to soft foods for the first few days
  • Avoid straws, spitting, and smoking for a few days to help prevent dry socket
  • Rinse gently with warm salt water starting the next day

Call us if you have pain that gets worse after a few days, swelling that keeps growing, or a fever.

Replacing the tooth

If the tooth was visible when you smile or needed for chewing, we'll talk about replacing it. Options include a same-day bridge made in our office, or an implant crown, where a trusted specialist places the implant and we restore it with a crown.

Cost and insurance

Most dental plans cover part of a needed extraction. We'll check your benefits before your visit so you know your cost up front, and CareCredit is accepted.
